How to Add Search Synonyms in Magento 2

You don’t want to lose a sale just because someone is looking for a “sofa,” while your product is visible as a result in “couch.” In this guide, we will tell you how to add search synonyms in Magento 2.

Search Synonyms is a group of search terms. Whenever a customer searches for a term, results of all words present in the synonym group will be rendered. Before adding search synonyms, you must analyze which are the most searched keywords on your store. This will help you to understand which are most searched products and based on search term you can add multiple search words in search synonym group.

How to Check and Add Search Terms?

To check searched words by the customer, go to Admin Panel => Marketing => Search Terms.

Here you will be able to see the list of searched words in your store.

The grid consists of:

Search Query: It is the keyword searched by the customer on your store.

Store: This column shows the store name where the customer has searched for that keyword. It is useful if you have multiple stores.

Results: This column shows the total number of products shown in the result of searched term.

Uses: This column will show how many times the user has searched for the word.

Redirect URL: Enter the desired URL for this Search term here. Mostly this would be blank unless you want to redirect the user to another URL for that search term.

Suggested Terms: Words having “yes” value in this column will be suggested to a customer when he searches for the product.

To add a new search term click Add New Search Term on the right-hand side of the screen.

How to Fix “No Results” Search Query?

If Users find a product that you have but return no results you can do the following:

  1. Go to “Search Terms” page
  2. Click Edit at the Query you want to change
  3. In the Redirect URL field, enter the desired URL for this Search term
  4. Click Save Search

How to Add Search Synonyms?

To see the list of synonym group, go to Admin Panel => Marketing => Search Synonyms.

You will see the grid of synonym groups here.

To add new synonym group click New Synonym Group on the right-hand side of the screen.

Scope: Select the extent of synonym group (All websites or particular store)

Synonyms: Insert comma-separated search terms which you want to add in the group.
